Process.Standards.Verification.
Istara Almanac operates under the following editorial principles: articles are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.
From Pitch to Publication
Subject Selection
Topics are selected based on their relevance to the almanac's subject areas: emotional eating, eating triggers, mindful eating awareness, food and mood connection, eating pace, food journalling, and related everyday wellness practices. No topic is selected on the basis of commercial interest. Writers may pitch subjects or be invited to write on a specific area.
Research & Source Gathering
Writers are expected to ground their pieces in published research where relevant. Sources from peer-reviewed journals, published behavioural studies, and documented observational research are preferred. Opinion pieces are clearly identified as such. No claims about the effects of specific foods or habits are made without reference to published evidence.
Draft Submission & First Edit
Submitted drafts are reviewed by the lead editor for structural coherence, factual accuracy, and alignment with the almanac's tone and subject standards. The first edit addresses both the argument of the piece and the accuracy of any cited material. Sources are checked independently at this stage.
Second Editor Review
Every article is reviewed by a second editor before publication. The second review focuses on factual consistency, tone, source accuracy, and the absence of any claims that exceed what the referenced research supports. The second editor also checks for interest declarations and flags any omissions.
Interest Declaration
Writers declare any relevant commercial relationships at the point of submission. Declarations are reviewed by the lead editor. Any relationship that could reasonably be seen to influence the selection or framing of a subject is disclosed in the published article. No undisclosed commercial arrangements exist at Istara Almanac.
Publication & Correction Protocol
Upon publication, the article date and author are recorded. Corrections submitted by readers are assessed within 48 hours of notification. Verified corrections are noted publicly in the article with the correction date. Substantive corrections are distinguished from minor factual adjustments in the notation.
How We Verify What We Publish
Factual claims about eating behaviour, the food and mood connection, emotional hunger, and related areas are supported by reference to published research. We favour peer-reviewed journals and documented observational studies. Claims that cannot be supported by published evidence are presented as observation or opinion and identified as such.
Sources cited in articles are verified independently by the second editor before publication. Verification includes confirming the source exists, that the cited claim is accurately represented, and that the source has not been retracted or substantially corrected since the writer cited it. We do not rely on secondary summaries of research.
The almanac also publishes writing that draws on personal observation, reported experience, and considered opinion. These pieces are identified as such and are not presented as evidence-based findings. They are held to the same standards of accuracy and interest declaration as research-informed articles, but their epistemic status is clearly stated.

Correction Policy
Istara Almanac takes the accuracy of its published content seriously. When a factual error is identified — whether by a reader, the writer, or a member of the editorial team — the following process applies.
A correction report is submitted to the lead editor either by email or through the contact form. The error is assessed within 48 hours of notification. If the correction is verified, the article is updated and a correction notice is appended to the article, stating the nature of the change and the date it was made.
Substantive corrections — those that affect the argument or factual basis of a piece — are distinguished from minor corrections such as typographical or formatting adjustments. In cases where a substantive correction significantly alters the meaning or conclusion of a piece, the change is noted prominently at the top of the article.
Maximum time to assess a correction notification once received
Send corrections to [email protected] with the article title, the specific text in question, and a description of the error. Corrections may also be submitted through the contact form.
